    Dead burnt plaster is anhydrous calcium sulphate CaSO4. It is known as dead burnt because, when moistened withwater it does not set like plaster of Paris. When plaster of Paris is heated above 393 K its water of crystallization is lost and the leftover anhydrous calcium sulphate CaSO4 is called the dead burnt plaster.
