    let the present ages of A and B be x , y respectively .

    x + y = 60. (1)

    according to second condition

    (x+10) = 3(y+10)

    x+10 = 3y + 30

    x – 3y = 20. (2)

    multiplying eq (1) by 3

    3x + 3y = 180. (3)

    adding eq (2) & (3)

    x – 3y = 20

    + 3x + 3y = 180

    4x = 200

    x = 50

    substituting value of x in eq (1)

    x + y = 60

    50 + y = 60

    y =10
