    – They are present in plant cells only.

    – There are three categories of plastids:

    1. Chromoplast
    2. Chloroplast
    3. Leucoplast

    1. Chromoplast:

    • These are coloured plastids except green.
    • They have irregular shape.
    • They provide different colours for attraction of pollinators.

    2. Chloroplast:

    • These are green coloured plastids.
    • They are present in higher plants and green algae.
    • It is responsible for green colour.
    • It contains pigment chlorophyll which is responsible for trapping sunlight.

    3. Leucoplast:

    • These are colourless plastids.
    • They are present in unexposed cells.
    • They are responsible for storage of food.

    – Functions of Plastids:

    1. It helps in trapping of light.

    2. They gives colours to plants.

    3. They help in storage of food.

  2. The plastid is a membrane-bound organelle found in the cells of plants, algae, and some other eukaryotic organisms. They are considered to be intracelluar endosymbiotic Cyanobacteria. Examples include chloroplasts, chromoplasts, and leucoplasts.
