Metric countries rate the fuel efficiency of a car by the number of liters of gasoline required to drive 100 kilometers. If a car takes 12 liters per 100 kilometers, what is its efficiency in miles per gallon? Use the conversions 1gal=3.7854 L and 1 mile=1.6 km.

  1. Answer:

in 12 liter the car goes 100 km

    3.7854 L = 1 gal

    1 L = 1/ 3.7854 gal

    12 L= 1/3.7854 x 12 = 3.1700 Gal

    second step

    1.6 km = 1 mile

    1 km = 1/1.6 mile =O.625 mile

    so

using 3.1700 gal of gasoline the car goes 0.625 miles

therefore using 1 gal of gasoline the car will go 0.625/3.1700 = 0.197 miles

so the efficiency in mile/ gal is > 0.197 miles per gal ..

if you round it off the answer is 2
