Elizabeth: We just happened to come by.
Abel: You are just in time.
Amelia: Just in time for what, father?
Abel: For an important announcement.
Elizabeth: What do you mean, father?
Abel: Looking at my age, and the fact that it is difficult to look after an old man, I have decided that I will not bother you two anymore. I will make my own arrangements.
Amelia: I don’t understand, father. Are you not happy living with us?
Elizabeth: You can always stay with us, father.
Abel: No, I do not plan to stay with either of you.
Amelia: Where do you want to go then?
Elizabeth: And who will look after you?
Abel: Mrs. Shorrocks. I will marry her,
Amelia: Marry her? At this age?
Elizabeth: Why would you want to marry her?
Abel: So that I can lead a happy life and be with someone who really cares for me. And just so you know, I am also going to change my will and leave everything to her. You two won’t need to fight over my property. You, my daughters, have failed me.
