    Factor the

    [tex]4 {x}^{2} (3x + 1) – 3x – 1[/tex]

    first two terms:

    Notice that we can factor out the negative – from the last two terms:

    [tex]4 {x}^{2} (3x + 1) – (3x + 1)[/tex]

    This means we can factor this by grouping. The factoring is already done, so we are left with:

    [tex](3x -+ 1)( {4x}^{2} – 1)[/tex]

    You can double-check this by expanding it again using the FOIL method:

    12x³+23x²-4x-15
