    Solution:

    Let say number x is added

    Then

    4 + x , 10 + x , 12 + x , 24 + x

    (4 + x) : (10 + x) :: ( 12 + x) : (24 + x)

    => (4 + x)/(10 + x) = (12 + x)/(24 + x)

    => (4 + x)(24 + x) = (10 + x)(12 + x)

    => 96 + 4x + 24x + x² = 120 + 10x + 12x + x²

    => 96 + 28x = 120 + 22x

    => 28x – 22x = 120 – 96

    => 6x = 24

    => x = 4
