    i believe it is rather self explanatory

    volume is the multiplication of all the dimensions but the volume has to be divided as you are going from a smaller unit to a larger unit and needs lesser abbreviation as 100 cm can be written as 1 m. the face value of cm is greater than face value of m. therefore division is done when going from a smaller unit to a larger unit.
