Subject : Evils of street begging
Dear Sir,
Please permit me to point out the evils of street begging prevailing in free India. I shall feel grateful if you kindly publish my vies in the columns of your esteemed ‘daily’.
The evils of street begging are great threat to the social image of the country. Beggars freely road about in the streets of free India. They move from door to door and from shop to shop. They carry begging bowls, besmear their hair with ash and sing holy songs to excite the religious feelings of the people. They expose their bruised limbs to excite the pity of the on-lookers.
Begging leads to many ills. Beggars are parasites on the society. They have made begging their profession. They teach the tricks of the trade to their children. Able-bodied beggars must be made to work. Invalid beggars should be sent to public houses. Begging must be done away with. People should discourage begging by refusing to give them alms.
