    Common indicators include: Litmus, phenolphthalein, methyl orange, screened methyl orange, bromothymol blue. Place 5cm3 of the solutions in the table below. Add three drops of litmus solution to each solution. Repeat with phenolphthalein indicator, methyl orange, screened methyl orange and bromothymol blue.

    Acid-base indicators are chemicals used to determine whether an aqueous solution is acidic, neutral, or alkaline. Because acidity and alkalinity relate to pH, they may also be known as pH indicators. Examples of acid-base indicators include litmus paper, phenolphthalein, and red cabbage juice.

    Those substances which change their colors in acid and base are called acid-base indicators for example litmus solution,methyl red, methyl orange and beetroot etc.

    The colours from yellow to red indicate an acidic solution, colours blue to violet indicate alkali and green colour indicates that a solution is neutral.
