Two fields have the same perimeter one is a square of side 72m and another is a rectangle of length 80m. Which field has the greater area and by how much? About the author Kinsley
Answer: Perimeter of each same as perimeter of square P=4S where S=side P=4S=4(72)=288 m Area of square= s x s=72 m x 72 m=5184 sq m for rectangle P=2L+2W so P-2L=2W and W=1/2(P-2L) width of rectangle=W =1/2(P-2L)… P is same as square=288m and L=80 m (given) W=1/2(288-2(80))=1/2(128)=64 m Area of rectangle A=L x W=80 m x 64 m= 5120 sq m Area of square is larger by (5184 sq m – 5120 sq mm) = 64 sq m Reply
Area of square is larger by (5184 sq m – 5120 sq mm) = 64 sq m
