  1. Answer :

    • 11 : 4 is the ratio of their ages after 5 years

    Given :

    • The ratio of the father’s age to the son’s age is 4 : 1
    • Product of their ages is 196

    To find :

    • Ratio of their ages after 5 years

    Solution :

    • Let the father’s age be 4x
    • Let the son’s age be x

Product of their ages is 196 so,

    》196 = 4x × x

    》196 = 4 × x²

    》196/4 = x²

    》49 = x²

    》x² = 49

    》x = √49

    》x = 7

    After 5 years,

    》Father’s age = 4x + 5

    》 4(7) + 5

    》28 + 5

    》33

    》Son’s age = x + 5

    》7 + 5

    》12

Now , we have to find the ratio of their ages after 5 years:

    • Father’s age = 33
    • Son’s age = 12

    》33 : 12

    》11 : 4

Hence, 11 : 4 is the ratio of their ages after 5 years

  2. Let the father’s age and son’s age be 4x years and x years respectively.

    Given, 4x×x=196⇒x

    2

    =

    4

    196

    =49⇒x=7

    ∴Requiredratio=

    x+5

    4x+5

    =

    7+5

    4×7+5=11/33

    =11/4
