   let x and y be two numbers

   x-y = 30

   then x = 30+y

   according to problem,

   2x = 7y-5

   2(30+y) = 7y -5

   60+2y = 7y-5

   60+5 = 7y-2y

   65 = 5y

   y= 65/5

   y= 13

   therefore smallest number y is 13

   and the largest number x is 30 + 13 = 43
